Denver Still Among Best Options For Iguodola To Resume Career

When Andre Iguodola opted out of the final year of his contract with almost $16 million still owed to him from the Denver Nuggets, there were more than a few bookmaker software technologists wondering how he could leave that money on the table. At 29-years old, Iguodola is closer to the end than he is the beginning of his career, and the reality is that every player needs to take advantage of making as much money as they can for as long as they can. However, by opting out Iguodola now opens up the possibility of signing a new, five-year extension with the Nuggets, when he would have only been eligible for a three-year extension if he had played out this final season. That means Denver is still a very possible destination for Iguodola, and it may still rank among the best spots for him to continue his career.

To find out more information about the situation, it made sense to do the research and figure out what he could do with the Nuggets. There is a real possibility that Igudola can sign a five-year deal with Denver where he has now lived for more than a year, and hope that the team is able to take another step forward next season despite general manager Masai Ujiri and head coach George Karl both being done. The Nuggets had the best home record in the entire NBA in 2012-13, and Iguodola would be a key piece of that team moving forward.

However, there are some that feel Iguodola’s move was in direct relation to a weak 2013 free agency class where he will have even more value on the open market. The Dallas Mavericks are rumored to be in pursuit of both Dwight Howard and Chris Paul, but they could also be interested in bringing in Iguodola if they fail to re-sign OJ Mayo. Iguodola could feel comfortable with the chance to play with Dirk Nowitzki and whomever else Dallas is able to bring in this offseason, and the Mavericks would be that much more interested in his services if Mayo does not return.

Another team that will have a ton of interest in Iguodola is the Detroit Pistons, which may actually be closer to contending than most people think. The Pistons have a ton of cap space, and they have a few of key pieces to build around in Greg Monroe, Andre Drummond, and Brandon Knight. Iguodola would be the perfect fit to replace Tayshaun Prince, who was traded to the Memphis Grizzlies before last season’s trade deadline.

One more potential fit for Iguodola is with the Houston Rockets, a team that is also rumored to be in the market for Howard and Paul. The Rockets already have several key pieces in place with James Harden, Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin, and Chandler Parsons, and the addition of Iguodola would help in their biggest area of need, which is at the defensive end of the floor. The Nuggets are still a real possibility and both the Mavericks and Pistons will show interest, but don’t sleep on Houston as another team that could swoop in and end up signing Iguodola to a long-term deal in free agency.
