David Schreff leaves Sportech to focus on his own company

David Schreff, a 1973 Amity High graduate who competed on the boys tennis team, is a veritable who’s who of sports and entertainment in the marketing world.

In November, Schreff’s marketing expertise took him to Sportech Inc., one of the world’s leading operators and suppliers of online gaming and tote gaming. Sportech also operates Connecticut Off-Track Betting. Sportech officials appointed Schreff as chief operating officer, responsible for Sportech’s United States and Latin American markets, including overseeing the Connecticut OTB operation.

The move was a positive and exciting one for Schreff, allowing him to come back to his roots with his main office based in New Haven. But last week, Schreff handed in his resignation and left Sportech to devote more time to his private business in Greenwich — Bedare Sports and Entertainment.

In 2002, Schreff founded the Bedare Sports and Entertainment consultants company to serve the gaming software, venue management, television content, corporate sponsorship, team sports (football/soccer, basketball and baseball), music, publishing and licensed consumer products industry.

“Everything at Sportech was good. I’ve been thrilled to be part of Sportech and there are high expectations for that company,” Schreff said. “They are well-positioned for some great things in the future. It was nice getting back to my roots since I was born at Yale-New Haven Hospital, grew up in Hamden and went to high school at Amity.

“But the timing was right for me to move on. Now I’m returning to my business roots in sports and entertainment. I feel it’s important to get back and devote more time to my company and be more hands on with its sports marketing and media advertising operation.”

Schreff, 57, graduated from Wesleyan University (1977) with a B.A. in government and got his MBA in marketing at the University of Connecticut business school. He has worked in the sports, entertainment and media industry for more than 30 years. Schreff has held a number of board director, executive and senior management roles that include the National Basketball Association, Walt Disney (Disney Channel), Marvel Entertainment and Viacom (Showtime Networks). From 2008 to 2011, he chaired the Board of USA Volleyball (a US Olympic Committee national governing body).

“I still plan to have an advisory presence with Sportech,” Schreff said, who now resides in Greenwich.
